![]() Through her work for LegaCare, Meg met Douglas, who is responsible for pointing out that the way Meg and her team advised and supported patients and carers wasn’t normal. To date, the charity has helped nearly 5,000 people in the North East. LegaCare’s services are free to anybody who earns £30,000 or less and/or has savings of less than £8,000. LegaCare is recognised for excellence in pro bono work having won awards as well as developing a longstanding relationship with the NHS who refer their patients to us. Since then, Kirbys Solicitors have worked tirelessly on a pro bono basis providing free support to the charity in order to help patients, carers and NHS staff. As a result of caring for him, she realised that there was no free legal help for patients affected by life threatening illness who may need help with putting their affairs in order, such as protecting the welfare of children, planning for dying and death, making wills and lasting powers of attorney and other legal matters. LegaCare is a charity that Meg Kirby set up in 1999, when her father became seriously ill. We will explain at the outset what the costs are likely to be and will keep you informed of costs throughout. We will use every effort to explain things clearly and without unnecessary legal jargon so you have a clear picture of what we will be doing for you. If you wish, every year, one of our solicitors will contact you, free of charge to review your situation so that if an anticipated (or even unanticipated) issue arises we are ready to help (obviously, if you need help in the interim we are here for you). We will do everything in our power to provide a level of service that goes above and beyond your expectations by working with you to obtain the best practical solutions. Client satisfaction is our single most important objective. ![]() We will be fair, honest and realistic with you at all times. That’s why we will always listen to you to ensure that we fully understand your objectives and the issues that you face so that we can tailor our advice to your situation. Our priority is to find out from the very start what you are hoping to achieve. We believe that our role is to help you achieve your aims. Our aim is therefore to be on the journey with you when you need legal support. Life is a journey and it’s very rare that the journey runs smoothly which means that any one of us can become vulnerable at any time.
